Prithvi Shaw, once celebrated as Indian cricket's rising star, is now on a journey of redemption, fueled by the unwavering support and guidance of Sachin Tendulkar. Shaw, who at a young age demonstrated immense potential, acknowledges a period of distraction and is now determined to regain his focus.
Shaw's early career was marked by incredible achievements. He broke records as a 15-year-old and captained India to victory in the Under-19 World Cup at 18. His Test debut century further solidified his status as a future star. However, this rapid success was followed by a period where his focus wavered.
"When things go awry and you drift away, you need that mentor, who can light a spark into you," Shaw stated. He admitted that poor choices and a lack of discipline led him astray. This resulted in him being dropped from the Mumbai Ranji team and going unsold at the IPL 2025 auction.
During this challenging phase, Sachin Tendulkar, a long-time mentor, remained a constant source of support. Tendulkar, who has known Shaw since childhood through his son Arjun, offered invaluable advice.
"Sachin sir knows about my journey... He still believes in me," Shaw revealed. "He said 'Prithvi, I still believe in you, and I'll continue to do so'... Even today, he tells me 'Sahi track pe aa ja, jaise pehle tha' (Come back on the same track as earlier). Everything is possible in the next 13-14 years. So he believes in me and that means a lot."
These words of encouragement served as a beacon of hope for Shaw, now 25, as he strives to revitalize his career. He has made the significant decision to leave Mumbai cricket and join Maharashtra, seeking a fresh start. Shaw is confronting his past mistakes head-on and dedicating himself to the hard work required to rebuild his career.
Whether this marks the beginning of a complete comeback remains to be seen. Shaw's commitment to addressing his challenges, combined with the support of legends like Sachin Tendulkar, gives him a strong chance at redemption.
