Givemore Makoni, the Managing Director of Zimbabwe Cricket, expressed his enthusiasm for the upcoming series. "We are delighted to confirm Sri Lanka's visit to Zimbabwe for what we expect to be a thrilling and competitive series," he stated.
The T20I matches hold particular significance for the Zimbabwean squad, serving as crucial preparation ahead of the ICC Men's T20 World Cup Africa Regional Final. This tournament, which Zimbabwe will host starting on September 19th, presents their opportunity to qualify for the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2027.
Makoni further commented on the historical rivalry between the two nations, noting, "Matches between our two nations have always produced entertaining cricket and this tour comes at a crucial time for our team as we prepare for the upcoming T20 World Cup qualifying campaign."
The series forms part of a busy schedule for Zimbabwe over the next three months. In addition to the Sri Lanka tour, they are also scheduled to host South Africa and New Zealand for two-match Test series. A T20I tri-series involving all three nations is also planned.
