West Indies fast bowler Jayden Seales has been sanctioned by the International Cricket Council (ICC) for violating the code of conduct during the first Test against Australia in Barbados. He will face a fine of 15 percent of his match fee.
The incident occurred after Seales dismissed Australian captain Pat Cummins at Kensington Oval. The ICC determined that Seales' gesture towards the dressing room was a breach of Article 2.5 of the Code of Conduct. This article specifically addresses actions or gestures that could incite an aggressive response from a dismissed batter during an international match.
Seales attempted to minimize the situation after the day's play. "It did not really mean anything and it was more a bit of frustration. Pat hit a couple of good shots off me and I just showed him where the dressing room was and there wasn't really anything in it," he stated.
In addition to the fine, Seales has also received one demerit point for the incident. This marks his second offense within a 24-month period, bringing his total to two demerit points.
Despite the penalty, Seales and the West Indies bowling attack displayed a commendable performance on the second day of the Test against Australia, the World Test Championship runners-up.
The hosts secured a narrow 10-run first-innings lead, propelled by a vital 67-run partnership for the sixth wicket. Shai Hope contributed 48 runs, while captain Roston Chase added 44.
Australia's second innings began with challenges, as they reached 92 for 4 wickets, holding an overall lead of 82 runs. Seales further contributed by dismissing Josh Inglis for 12, claiming his sixth wicket of the match.
As the match progresses into day three, the situation remains competitive. Travis Head (13) and Beau Webster (19) are poised to resume batting for Australia.
